Swimming Lessons
Swimming is an important life skill, and swimming lessons are the perfect way to ensure you and your family are confident and safe in the water. Our swimming lessons follow the Welsh Learn to Swim programme and have been running successfully for many years. All our instructors are ASA qualified and DBS checked so you can be confident you and your family are in safe and experienced hands.
MonLife offers a comprehensive swimming program for children, ensuring they develop essential aquatic skills in a safe and fun environment. The program includes various levels tailored to different age groups and skill levels. MonLife’s swimming lessons are run on a continual 50-week program, with lesson durations between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the class level. All swimming lessons must be booked in advance and paid for via Direct Debit. A current MonLife Active membership card will be required to book swimming lessons.
Additionally, if your child is enrolled in swimming lessons, their Aqua Junior membership also grants them free access to our public swim sessions to support their aquatic development.

Bubbles
Aimed at ages 6 months – 3 years
The Bubbles program provides a fully supported introduction to the aquatic environment for babies and young children with an accompanying adult.
The program has 4 levels where aquatic skills are gradually developed. Adults are trained to support their children through games, songs, and themed activities, ensuring a fun and educational experience.
Bubbles 1
Bubbles 1 is designed to introduce young children to the water in a safe and comfortable environment with the support of their adult. In this level, children and their adults will learn to enter the water safely and comfortably. The adult will help the child hold onto the side of the pool and support them in a vertical position while moving around the water. The adult will also support the child on their front and back while moving around the water. Children will become comfortable with water being trickled over their heads by their adult and will learn to rotate in a vertical position to face away from their adult. The goal is for children to feel comfortable and content in the water. Finally, children and their adults will learn to exit the water safely.

- My adult and I can get into the water safely and comfortably

Bubbles 2
Bubbles 2 is designed to build on the foundational skills learned in Bubbles 1, focusing on increasing comfort and confidence in the water with the support of an adult. In this level, children will learn to sit on the side of the pool and wait for instructions from their adult to enter the water safely with full support. They will practice holding onto the side of the pool with a little help from their adult and moving around the water in a vertical position with less support. The adult will also support the child in a horizontal position on their front and back while moving around the water. Children will become comfortable with water being showered over their heads by their adult and will learn to float on their front or back with help. Additionally, they will practice rotating 180 degrees from front to back or back to front with help from their adult and splashing their hands in the water. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to further develop their water skills and confidence.

Bubbles 3
Bubbles 3 is designed to further develop children’s water skills and confidence with the support of an adult. In this level, children will learn to sit on the side of the pool and wait for instructions from their adult to enter the water safely. They will practice holding onto the side of the pool with help as needed and kicking their legs on their front and back with encouragement from their adult or aids. Additionally, children will float on their front or back with reduced support, splash or wet their own face, and blow bubbles in the water with encouragement. They will also learn to rotate 180 degrees from front to back or back to front with aids and/or less help, reach and grab for floating toys while moving around, and push away from the wall on their back in a horizontal body shape with aids and/or help. Finally, children will learn to exit the water safely with help from their adult, who will encourage them to try and climb out if they are able to. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to enhance their water skills and confidence.

Bubbles 4
Bubbles 4 is designed to further develop children’s water skills and confidence with the support of an adult. In this level, children will learn to enter the water safely from a sitting position to their adult, who then helps them return to the side of the pool. They will practice holding onto the side of the pool with their adult watching them and showing a horizontal body position on their front and back with aids, while being encouraged to kick their legs. Additionally, children will float on their front or back using aids with help from their adult, shower water over their head, and blow bubbles with their mouth and nose in the water. They will also learn to rotate from lying on their back to their front or from lying on their front to their back with aids, reach and grab for toys under the surface of the water while moving around the pool, and push away from the wall in a horizontal body position to their adult with or without aids. Finally, children will learn to exit the water safely under the supervision of their adult, who will encourage them to climb out by themselves without using the steps. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to enhance their water skills and confidence.
Learning Outcomes
- I can enter the water safely from a sitting position to my adult, who then helps me return to the side of the pool.

Please note, our Bubbles lessons evaluate all four levels with our skilled instructors carefully assessing and enhancing your child’s abilities over multiple sessions. They will continue guiding your child’s progress until they successfully achieve the learning objectives set for Bubbles Level 4.

Splash
Aimed at ages 3+
Splash is designed to encourage children to swim independently and explore the aquatic environment under guidance, building their water confidence.
The program consists of 6 levels, with skills progressively developing at each stage. As children advance, they gain more independence in the water through guided discovery and playful activities.
Splash 1
Splash 1 is designed to introduce young children to the basics of swimming and water safety. In this level, children will learn to enter the water, rotate, and return to the side of the pool with assistance from an adult or teacher. They will practice moving 2 metres along the pool wall with aids, kicking their legs on their front or back, and floating on their back with help if needed. Additionally, children will blow a floating toy for 2 metres, regain a vertical position in the water, push away from the wall on their back, and safely exit the water with assistance. This program ensures a fun and supportive environment for children to build confidence and essential swimming skills.
Learning Outcomes
- I can enter the water, rotate and go back to the side of the pool with help from my adult or teacher
- I can move 2 metres one way and back again along the pool wall or rail with aids
- I can kick my legs on my front or back with aids and help from my adult or teacher

Splash 2
Splash 2 builds on the foundational skills learned in Splash 1, focusing on increasing independence and confidence in the water. In this level, children will learn to swivel into the water, return to the side, and climb out under the supervision of an adult or teacher. They will practice moving 5 metres along the pool wall with aids, kicking their legs on their front and back with assistance, and floating on their front with help if needed. Additionally, children will blow a floating toy for 5 metres, regain an upright position in the water with aids, push away from the wall on their front with aids, and move 3 metres on their front or back with assistance to the side of the pool. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to enhance their swimming skills and water safety awareness.

Splash 3

Additionally, children will move 3 metres on their front or back to a floating object with supervision, float on their front and back, and confidently put their whole face in the water. They will also learn to rotate from front to back or back to front with aids and supervision, and push and glide on their front and back with or without aids. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to enhance their swimming skills and water safety awareness.

Splash 4
Splash 4 focuses on enhancing children’s independence and confidence in the water. In this level, children will learn to enter and exit the pool safely on their own. They will practice kicking both legs simultaneously for 5 metres with aids, kicking their legs on their front and back for 5 metres with aids, and moving 3 metres on their front or back to the side of the pool with aids, all on their own. Additionally, children will float on their front and back with aids, perform 3 rhythmical breaths, rotate from front to back or back to front on their own, and push and glide towards their teacher on their front or back. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to further develop their swimming skills and water safety awareness.

Splash 5
Splash 5 focuses on enhancing children’s swimming skills and water safety awareness. In this level, children will learn to enter the water safely in two ways, including a jump, and return to the side of
the pool to climb out under the supervision of their teacher. They will practice moving 3 metres using both their arms and legs at the same time with aids, on their front and back. Additionally, children will float on their front and back with aids if needed, go completely under the water on their own, and perform 6 rhythmical breaths while looking to both sides. They will also learn to rotate all the way around, starting from lying on their front or back, and push and glide to their teacher in a streamlined body position on their front or back. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to further develop their swimming skills and water safety awareness.
Learning Outcomes

Splash 6
Splash 6 focuses on enhancing children’s independence and confidence in the water. In this level, children will learn to enter the water safely in two ways, including a jump, and return to the side of the pool to climb out on their own. They will practice paddling using both their arms and legs at the same time for 5 metres with aids, on their front and back. Additionally, children will float on their front or back for 5 seconds on their own, go completely under the water to pick up an object, and blow bubbles with their face in the water without goggles. They will also learn to regain a standing position from lying on their front and back, and push and glide from the wall in a streamlined body position on their front and back. This program ensures a supportive environment for children to further develop their swimming skills and water safety awareness.

Waves
Aimed at ages 4-5
The Waves program consists of 8 levels. Levels 1 to 7 teach essential swimming and water safety skills such as swimming in clothes, treading water, and swimming without goggles. Children will also take part in numerous aquatic activities such as Rookie Lifesaving and Water Polo.
Wave 8 then provides a multi-aquatic experience, serving as an introduction to various aquatic sports or a way to stay active in the water.
Wave 1
Wave 1 program introduces essential swimming and water safety skills. Participants will learn to get in and out of the water safely, play teacher-led games in the pool, and become comfortable with water on their face without goggles. They will also practice floating on their front and back, pushing off the wall, and swimming using both alternating and simultaneous actions on their front and back. Additionally, children will learn to scull in a vertical body position. This program is designed to build confidence and foundational skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Wave 2
Wave 2 program builds on foundational swimming and water safety skills. Participants will learn to answer questions about water safety, jump into the pool without goggles, and float on their front and back. They will practice blowing bubbles while kicking, pushing and gliding on their front and back, and swimming 5 meters using front crawl, backstroke, and either breaststroke or butterfly. Additionally, children will learn to rotate 360 degrees and scull head-first on their back. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

Wave 3

They will also fully submerge to collect an object from the pool floor, push and glide with rotation, and swim 10 meters using front crawl and backstroke, as well as 5 meters using breaststroke and butterfly. Additionally, children will perform a series of floating shapes, change direction while swimming, and scull feet-first on their back. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

Wave 4
Wave 4 program further develops essential swimming and water safety skills. Participants will learn the four water safety messages and beach flags and demonstrate the HELP Position. They will practice jumping in without goggles, treading water for 30 seconds, and climbing out of the pool. Additionally, children will swim 10 meters wearing clothes, demonstrate underwater dolphin kicks, and travel 10 meters using front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly kicks. They will also swim 10 meters using front crawl or backstroke, and breaststroke or butterfly to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. As part of a team, participants will demonstrate a series of skills. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

Additionally, children will swim 15 meters using front crawl and backstroke, and 10 meters using breaststroke and butterfly to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. They will also swim 25 meters, perform a series of sculling movements, forward somersaults, and handstands in the water. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

They will also learn to tread water and move into the HUDDLE position, demonstrate an effective throwing rescue, and swim 20 meters using front crawl and backstroke, and 15 meters using breaststroke and butterfly to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. Additionally, children will swim 50 meters, perform a sitting dive, backward somersaults in the water, and pass and catch a ball while treading water. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

Wave 7 program continues to advance essential swimming and water safety skills. Participants will learn the four water safety messages and beach flags, and practice swimming 25 meters using front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. They will also swim 100 meters using an individual medley (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, front crawl) and 200 meters to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. Additionally, children will practice diving into the pool, passing and catching a ball while treading water for 30 seconds, and completing an obstacle course in the water. They will also demonstrate a series of skills and take part in a relay race. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

They will also practice the tuck to stretch position, move from a push and glide to a surface dive, and swim 50 meters wearing clothes. Additionally, children will demonstrate the HELP Position, swim 50 meters front crawl from a dive entry, 50 meters backstroke from an underwater push and glide, 25 meters breaststroke, and 25 meters butterfly to the Swim Wales Stroke Standard. They will also remain vertical and static while treading water using an eggbeater kick, and pass a ball to a partner. This program is designed to enhance confidence and swimming abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

1-2-1 Swimming Courses
MonLife offers personalised 1-2-1 swimming lessons designed to cater to any individuals needs and goals. These lessons provide focused, one-on-one instruction with a qualified swimming instructor ensuring tailored guidance and confidence building. Each session is 30 minutes long, and lessons are booked in blocks of six, providing consistent and structured learning. Call our reception on 01633 644800 for inquiries or to book your spot.
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Rookie Lifesaving
MonLife’s Rookie Lifeguard Pool programme teaches children essential water safety skills in a fun and educational environment. It boosts confidence, promotes teamwork, and develops leadership abilities. The programme complements existing swimming lessons, enhancing survival, rescue, and lifesaving skills.
