We are pleased to confirm that both the gym and our fitness class programme will temporarily relocate to Castlegate Business Park, approximately a three-minute drive from Caldicot Leisure Centre. This temporary facility has been secured to help ensure members can continue accessing gym and fitness services while the refurbishment works are carried out.

The site offers on-site parking, air conditioning and limited changing provision; however, showers will not be available. We are working hard to move as much equipment as possible to the temporary location to maintain a familiar gym experience. Due to space limitations and health and safety requirements, there may be some items of equipment that cannot be accommodated at the temporary site. We appreciate your understanding and will do everything possible to minimise any impact on your experience.

While we have worked hard to minimise disruption, there may be a temporary reduction in class capacities at the new location. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we manage the transition and do our best to accommodate as many members as possible.

The ground floor facilities at Caldicot Leisure Centre will continue to operate as normal throughout this period. To facilitate the next stage of the project, the upstairs leisure facilities will temporarily close from 9am on Tuesday 25th August, before reopening at our temporary location at Castlegate Business Park from 6:15am on Thursday 27th August. This short transition period will enable us to relocate equipment and prepare the new space, ensuring members can continue enjoying gym and fitness activities with minimal disruption. The refurbishment works are due to start on 1st September and are estimated to take 12–15 weeks, with reopening expected in December 2026.

As a reminder, your membership allows you to use Chepstow Leisure Centre and all other MonLife leisure facilities, should you wish to access alternative locations during this time.

Please note that, whilst these are the planned dates and times, they may be subject to change should circumstances require. We will keep members informed of any updates as soon as possible.

Caldicot Gym Development

Technogym, one of the world’s leading providers of fitness equipment and digital wellness solutions, have been working with Monmouthshire Council  to develop proposals for a brand-new refurbished fitness suite at Caldicot Leisure Centre. The project is at a vital stage where, we are gathering feedback from members, prospective users and the wider community to help inform the final design. This engagement is helping to ensure the new facility reflects local needs while creating a welcoming and inclusive space that supports people of all ages, abilities and fitness goals.

Supported by a £601,429 investment, the proposed fitness suite will feature modern, high-quality equipment and innovative digital solutions designed to enhance the member experience and support a wide range of health and wellbeing activities. The design aims to create an inspiring environment that is accessible to everyone, whether they are experienced gym users, regular class participants, swimming pool users or considering joining for the first time.

By placing customers at the heart of the decision-making process, the project will deliver far more than a refurbished gym. It will create a modern community fitness space that encourages participation, promotes healthier lifestyles and supports people in achieving their individual wellbeing goals. The feedback received will play an important role in shaping a facility that the local community can be proud of and enjoy for years to come.

FAQ’s

We are progressing plans for the investment and refurbishment of the fitness suite at Caldicot Leisure Centre. Below are some frequently asked questions to help keep customers and members informed as the project develops.

The local authority received approval to move forward with an investment of £601k at Full Council on 25 June 2026. We are currently undertaking a user survey, which will help inform the final designs. Please visit the Let’s Talk page to share your feedback HERE.

This exciting investment will enhance the first-floor fitness facilities at Caldicot Leisure Centre, creating a more modern, welcoming and high-quality environment for members and visitors.

The refurbishment will modernise the first-floor fitness areas, including the main gym, smaller fitness area, BioCircuit / Easyline provision, studios, multipurpose spaces, circulation areas and upstairs toilets.

Works will include new fitness equipment, updated LED lighting, flooring, power, data, decoration and associated building services, with air conditioning requirements reviewed as part of the scheme.

These works are refurbishments within the existing facility footprint, with the layout of the communal space remaining the same and no structural changes to the building.

The fitness suite is expected to close around the end of August 2026. Please continue to check this page for updates on the exact closure date. Customers will also be notified directly by email.

Works to the first floor are currently programmed to start in early September 2026. Please keep checking this page, as we will provide regular updates once the programme has been confirmed. Members will also receive direct email updates.

The leisure centre is expected to be closed for between 12 and 15 weeks while the refurbishment works are completed.

There will be no changes to your membership during the closure. The local authority is exploring an alternative location to provide fitness facilities during the works. We expect minimal disruption to classes, and the spin studio will remain open at Caldicot Leisure Centre.

The upstairs leisure facilities at Caldicot Leisure Centre are scheduled to close at 9am on Tuesday 25th August. The temporary gym and fitness class facility at Castlegate Business Park is currently planned to open at 6am on Thursday 27 August. Please note that these dates and times may be subject to change.

The temporary gym and fitness class facility will be located at Castlegate Business Park, approximately a three minute drive from Caldicot Leisure Centre.

Yes. We will continue to offer a fitness class programme from the temporary location. Whilst we have worked hard to retain as much of the current timetable as possible, some class capacities may be reduced due to the available space.

We will be relocating as much equipment as possible to ensure members can continue their workouts. However, due to space restrictions and health and safety requirements, some items of equipment may not be available at the temporary location.

The temporary facility will include:

  • Gym facilities
  • Fitness classes
  • Changing areas
  • Air conditioning
  • On-site parking

Please note that showers will not be available at the temporary location.

The Temporary Fitness Suite will include a range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment to help members maintain their fitness routines while the redevelopment works are taking place. Every effort has been made to provide a balanced mix of equipment within the available space.  Please click HERE for a full list of equipment.

As this is a temporary facility, there are some limitations on the equipment that can be installed. Certain pieces of equipment, including the Dual Assisted Pulley and Cable Jungle, require permanent floor fixings to comply with Technogym's health and safety requirements. As the Temporary Fitness Suite is located within a shared building, we are unable to bolt equipment into the floor and therefore these items cannot be relocated to the temporary gym.
