Caldicot Gym Development

Technogym, one of the world’s leading providers of fitness equipment and digital wellness solutions, have been working with Monmouthshire Council  to develop proposals for a brand-new refurbished fitness suite at Caldicot Leisure Centre. The project is at a vital stage where, we are gathering feedback from members, prospective users and the wider community to help inform the final design. This engagement is helping to ensure the new facility reflects local needs while creating a welcoming and inclusive space that supports people of all ages, abilities and fitness goals.

Supported by a £601,429 investment, the proposed fitness suite will feature modern, high-quality equipment and innovative digital solutions designed to enhance the member experience and support a wide range of health and wellbeing activities. The design aims to create an inspiring environment that is accessible to everyone, whether they are experienced gym users, regular class participants, swimming pool users or considering joining for the first time.

By placing customers at the heart of the decision-making process, the project will deliver far more than a refurbished gym. It will create a modern community fitness space that encourages participation, promotes healthier lifestyles and supports people in achieving their individual wellbeing goals. The feedback received will play an important role in shaping a facility that the local community can be proud of and enjoy for years to come.

FAQ’s

We are progressing plans for the investment and refurbishment of the fitness suite at Caldicot Leisure Centre. Below are some frequently asked questions to help keep customers and members informed as the project develops.

The local authority received approval to move forward with an investment of £601k at Full Council on 25 June 2026. We are currently undertaking a user survey, which will help inform the final designs. Please visit the Let’s Talk page to share your feedback HERE.

This exciting investment will enhance the first-floor fitness facilities at Caldicot Leisure Centre, creating a more modern, welcoming and high-quality environment for members and visitors.

The refurbishment will modernise the first-floor fitness areas, including the main gym, smaller fitness area, BioCircuit / Easyline provision, studios, multipurpose spaces, circulation areas and upstairs toilets.

Works will include new fitness equipment, updated LED lighting, flooring, power, data, decoration and associated building services, with air conditioning requirements reviewed as part of the scheme.

These works are refurbishments within the existing facility footprint, with the layout of the communal space remaining the same and no structural changes to the building.

The fitness suite is expected to close around the end of August 2026. Please continue to check this page for updates on the exact closure date. Customers will also be notified directly by email.

Works to the first floor are currently programmed to start in early September 2026. Please keep checking this page, as we will provide regular updates once the programme has been confirmed. Members will also receive direct email updates.

The leisure centre is expected to be closed for between 12 and 15 weeks while the refurbishment works are completed.

There will be no changes to your membership during the closure. The local authority is exploring an alternative location to provide fitness facilities during the works. We expect minimal disruption to classes, and the spin studio will remain open at Caldicot Leisure Centre.

Once the alternative provision has been confirmed, we will share full details. Any alternative provision will be at an accessible location and will include car parking, toilet facilities, access to water, and an air-conditioned space.

The opening times of the alternative provision will mirror the current opening times of the leisure centre: Monday to Friday, 6.15am to 9.30pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 8.15am to 4.15pm.

No. The ground floor will remain unaffected and open as normal, with full access to the swimming pool, spin studio, sports hall, and agile area.

Yes. All members can take advantage of the summer campaign. Members who take up the offer within the first week are expected to experience little to no impact. Members who take up the offer after the first week may experience a short closure period at Caldicot Leisure Centre, potentially around two days, while we move fitness provision to the alternative location.
