Reminiscence Resources

MonLife Learning offers a wonderful range of Reminiscence resources for older adults and people living with Dementia.

Our Memory Boxes offer opportunities for both one-to-one and group work or you can choose to have an on-site Reminiscence Session led by one of our trained facilitators.

Our Memory Boxes contain a wealth of carefully selected objects, object information and suggested questions, enabling you to explore a wide range of topics with participants.

Our Memory Box range

World War Two

From the blackout to VE Day our WW2 box will bring back lots of memories of life on the Home Front. It’s the perfect box to reminisce about Rationing and Make-do and Mend.

Transport

How did you travel to school or work? What was the first car you ever owned? What was the longest journey you ever made? Our Transport box offers lots of opportunities for conversations themed around life on the move.

Holidays

Donkeys and dodgems or exotic beaches and tropical sunsets, holidays are a magical time for most. Our Holiday box will trigger lots of memories of trips to the seaside, holiday camps and adventures abroad.

The 1950’s

From the era when you’d never had it so good! Our 1950’s box contains all sorts of objects that will have people reminiscing about a wide range of subjects including their first TV set, National Service and Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation celebrations.

Fashion

Perfumes and aftershaves, hats and handbags this box has it all for reminiscing about dressing up for a night on the town or for a special occasion.

High Days and Holidays

A lovely box designed to trigger memories of red letter days, celebrations and the significant moments in life’s journey.

The 1960’s

Miniskirts and the Beatles, Tupperware and Tights, this box will have people recalling a host of memories about life in the Swinging Sixties.

House and Home

A wonderful box that reminds us how we used to live. From carbolic soap to Green Shield Stamps, a food mincer to Robin’s starch, House and Home encourages conversations on a range of topics including laundry, cooking and shopping in the past.

Childhood

Our Childhood box will take people right back to the days of satchels and chalk, jacks and tiddlywinks. It’s packed full of objects that are sure to spark conversations about school dinners and playground games.

The 1970’s

Starsky and Hutch, Berni Inns, Chopper bikes and Vesta Chow Mein – it can only be the 1970’s. This fabulous collection will certainly trigger memories of the 3 day week, platform shoes and flared trousers.

Christmas

When was Stir-up Sunday in your house? What was the best Christmas present you ever received? This magical box contains all you need to reminiscence about Christmas past.

Hiring our memory boxes

· Individual Memory Boxes cost £10.00 per week to hire.

· Our Memory Boxes can be collected from and returned to any of our museums in Abergavenny, Chepstow or Monmouth.

Reminiscence training

Remember Me is a Health and Social Care Level 3 course accredited through Agored Cymru.

This 40 hour course enables learners to plan and deliver safe reminiscence sessions using multi-sensory resources and is ideal for those working in care settings and Day Centres.

Participants receive a training pack full of advice and guidance and ideas for creative activity inspired by reminiscence conversations.

The Remember Me course costs £125.00 per person

MonLife Learning also offers shorter course reminiscence training. Cost: £40.00 per person.

Crafty Conversations

Our Crafty Conversations programme is designed to promote chat and communication through object handling and participation in accessible craft activities.

Sessions last approximately 1 1/2 hours and are delivered in your own setting by our skilled facilitators
