Bulwark Park
Play is more than just fun, it is a vital part of childhood development, fostering confidence, resilience, and stronger community connections. To ensure the new designs reflect the needs of local families, we engaged with parents and children through online surveys via Let’s Talk Monmouthshire and direct consultation during the Food and Fun summer programme. The response was encouraging, with input received from a wide range of age groups.
As a result of this collaborative effort, we are excited to include features such as the Slide Unity Climber at Bulwark Park, made possible through additional funding from Chepstow Town Council. These enhancements reflect our commitment to listening to the community and delivering inclusive, engaging spaces for children of all abilities.
How we have met the needs for the consultation?
The new play area will feature equipment and activities for all ages, including soft flooring, a wide variety of climbing structures with integrated slides and an embedded trampoline, swings of different sizes, benches with shaded spots, activity boards and sensory features, and bright, appealing designs. While a zipwire wasn’t possible due to budget and space, we’re committed to using natural materials and exploring nature-based solutions to enhance the area and connect people with local green spaces.
Note: Consideration of the parameters of the existing play park footprint needed to be considered when designing Bulwark Park.
Equipment Chosen
As part of the consultation process, a strong preference was expressed for a variety of swings that cater to different abilities. In response, the new design includes a basket swing, which was one of the most frequently selected options.
Additional features such as spinning equipment, a seesaw, and sensory play boards have also been incorporated. These elements support inclusive play and have been carefully chosen to suit the available space while meeting the priorities identified by the community.

Exciting Upgrades Coming to Bulwark Park Skatepark!
We’re making improvements to the concrete apron around the top of both skatepark bowls at Bulwark Park. A contractor has been appointed to carry out the work, and while the schedule will depend on the weather, we’re committed to keeping the park in great shape for everyone to enjoy.
