Learning opportunities at the Shire Hall

Welcome to the Shire Hall’s exciting learning programme. Housed in the building that was the site of one of the most significant trials in British history, the trial of the Monmouthshire Chartists, our creative learning activities are designed to engage, inspire and enthuse.

Workshops

Treason, Trials and Transportation – KS2 – KS4

A 2 hour facilitated workshop exploring the trial of the Monmouthshire Chartists.  Investigate evidence, prepare your case and conduct your own version of the Chartist trial in the courtroom where it actually took place!

Guilty! – KS2 & KS3

A facilitated 2 hour workshop investigating crime and punishment in 19th century Monmouthshire.  Explore handling objects and primary source material, take a trip to the holding cells and conduct your own mock trial in our period courtroom.
