Western Avenue – Monlife

Western Avenue

Play is more than just fun it is a vital part of childhood development, fostering confidence, resilience, and stronger community connections. To ensure the new designs reflect the needs of local families, we engaged with parents and children through online surveys via Let’s Talk Monmouthshire and direct consultation during the Food and Fun summer programme. The response was encouraging, with input received from a wide range of age groups.

As a result of this collaborative effort, we are excited to include features such as the supply and installation of the Net jumper at Western Avenue, made possible through additional funding from Chepstow Town Council. These enhancements reflect our commitment to listening to the community and delivering inclusive, engaging spaces for children of all abilities.

We are committed to listening to our communities and delivering spaces that reflect your priorities. Thank you once again for helping us create play areas that everyone can enjoy.

Update on additional Equipment

We’re delighted to announce that, thanks to additional funding, we’ll soon be installing a new scooter pod and bike rack to make our parks even more accessible and family friendly.

These additions are designed to encourage active travel and give visitors more convenient options when enjoying our parks.

Stay tuned for updates as installation begins, we can’t wait for you to see the improvements!

Update on Work Schedule

Signage has now been installed on Western Avenue to inform customers of the upcoming works. Removal of the existing equipment is scheduled to begin on 12th January. The delivery of new equipment is expected the week commencing 19th January; however, on-site resources will be limited due to pre-scheduled activities.

How we have met the needs for the consultation

We’ve listened to your feedback and designed a play area that offers something for all ages, with soft flooring, a variety of challenging climbing structures including slides and an embedded trampoline, swings for different abilities, benches with some shaded areas, bright and appealing design, sensory and activity boards, and a commitment to using natural materials and supporting nature recovery, while the only feature we couldn’t include due to budget and space constraints was the zipwire.

Equipment Chosen

As part of the consultation process, a strong preference was expressed for a variety of swings that cater to different abilities. In response, the new design includes a basket swing, which was one of the most frequently selected options.

Additional features such as spinning equipment, a seesaw, and sensory play boards have also been incorporated. These elements support inclusive play and have been carefully chosen to suit the available space while meeting the priorities identified by the community.
